WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND
New buildings or major expansions and modernizations in the life science industry are very capital / cost intensive. Budgets have to be planned/approved far in advance. Capital budgets and programs require approval of funds often 3 to 5 years in advance.
Current capital programs have been developed under the assumption that funds become available in a predictable manner.
Since the current recession has not been part of the prediction and funding resources are becoming scarce, the scale and pace of planned capital projects have to be reconsidered.
GABA's Life Sciences Industry Group has invited capital planning experts to present and discuss how the financial crisis and expected economic stimuli packages impact and reshape capital planning in the Life Sciences and Health Care sectors.
Specific topics to be discussed will include:
* Availability of funds
* Will building "Green" be sacrificed
* How can we reduce time and cost for new construction/expansion?
* Alternatives to capital investments (e.g. use of CMO's, Universities for research, collaborations with other companies, capacity sharing)
Panelists:
* Frank Menkel, Associate Director, Genentech
* Dan Hipple, Sr Director of Facilities Services, Theravance
* David Bendet, Sr Project Manage of AIA LEED AP, Perkins+Will
* Others TBD
Moderators:
* Edda Kargel Mihaescu, Ph. D., P.E., Principal Engineer, Bayer HealthCare
